I don't get it. If AI artworks cannot be copyrighted, then it does not compete in existing markets, and thus cannot be a copyright infringements.

Something that cannot be copyrighted does not limit it from competing with copyright works.
Especially if the uncopyrightable entity is substantially lower in cost and subsumes a work that would have been licensed or commissioned?
